An interesting read… Design

A lovely article by Chris Noessel about interaction design via the UXmas site.
(It’s a slightly longer read than my others so far, but stay with it)

http://uxmas.com/2014/7-things-i-wish-everyone-knew-about-interaction-design

It’s a nice look into how we can answer the question “But, what is interaction design?”

I was lucky enough to see him speak at a conference last year about ‘How do I think new things?” and the concept he called ‘semantic noodling’. I think he’s one of those people with very infectious knowledge and obviously delights in what he does and speaks about.

Also well worth reading his book “Make it so” lessons we can learn in design from science fiction.

Hope you enjoy.

A nice article about the difference and similarities between Service design and Customer Experience

http://blog.usabilla.com/are-cx-and-service-design-the-same-thing/

A concise comaparrison between these two terms with links out to other articles exploring the relationship between these two terms and definititions.

As we embark into a world where everyone’s expecting services to be customer centric perhaps these two terms may become more synonymus.

Well worth a read 🙂

Here’s an article on UX and the future of the chatbot ‘interface’.

https://www.fastcodesign.com/3054934/the-next-phase-of-ux-designing-chatbot-personalities

An interesting perspective on how our role in UX may need to adapt for interface-less interactions

As we embark into a world where everyone’s connected most of the time, being able to interact with all the technology that works to make our lives easier (or just more fun), it’s likely user experience design will head in this direction more and more.

Well worth a read 🙂

TED talks for design

I’ll be sharing some of my favourite TED talks about design, creativity and design thinking.

To start here’s just a couple of folks I think are definitely worth following/checking out 🙂

  • Don Norman
  • Roman Mars
  • Pod cast : 99 percent invisible
  • Mike Rohde
  • Sunny Brown

TED TALK #1 (12:41)

3 ways good design makes you happy : Don Norman

TED TALK #2 (18:18)

Why city flags may be the worst-designed thing you’ve never noticed : Roman Mars

TED TALK #3 (7:25)

How play leads to great inventions : Steven Johnson

If you’ve never done ‘Drawing toast’ , its a great way of getting outside of your problem; a ‘10,000 ft view’ and getting those who don’t normally put pen to paper to begin to think visually. I like to use it as a warm up for sketchnoting workshops too, getting people used to being succinct and focused.

TED TALK #4

Got a wicked problem? First, tell me how you make toast : Tom Wujec

A nice watch, some nice points about small things, being creative and some everyday design awareness

TED TALK #5 (14:10)

Design in the details : Paul Bennett
